“Alicia”–one of my first attempts at painting

Sunday, May 17th, 2015

Alicia was 12 or 13 years old when I first met her. She would come into the gallery and just hang out. (The gallery was a safe haven for both gangs, the Reds (Norteno) and the Blues(Soreno). Alicia’s family was extremely poor–probably illegals from Mexico. Her father was a alcoholic. her brother was a member of the Blues.—Alicia, even at that age, was in love with Miguel. Miguel. about 15 years old already was a mean-heavy hitter for the Red gang. The two kept it a total …secret. A hellish war would have broken out between the rival gangs. I kept their secret.—End of story–I got very ill and lost track—but a couple of months ago I learned that Alicia ad became pregnant, quit school and was hanging with the Blues. –Miguel, who didn’t go to school had managed to straighten his life around and was driving a truck, working in the orchards. He was forming his on farm Labor Crew.—I sometimes miss the gallery–olRoff

Why Do I Keep Buying

Friday, May 15th, 2015

I decided not to pursue the on-line gallery because of the record keeping and the tax issues. I intend to continue my collecting of the art and antiques I love so much. Arleney asks, “Why do you keep buying?” My answer is “Following my family, it is my passion”. I liken it to many women who have a closet filled with clothing, I have large storage shed I am filling with art.–olRoff

Resale Premit has been cancelled—Nothing for-sale here! But lots of fun things to look at!

Thursday, May 14th, 2015

Well my on-line gallery lasted about 2 weeks.  I never used my resale permit and decided not to. Life is so much easier without having to keep records or deal with tax issues, especially IRS.–Such a relief to cancel it! So back to painting strictly for fun–no money involved! No selling here, ya!–olRoff

“Sinking ” is one of my earlier paintings. It was painted by me after I had just fed a small group of homeless people. Following giving them food a stand-off woman finally was persuaded to eat. After I gave her food, she asked me if I would hold her. I put my arms around her as she sobbed. I held her for a few minutes. it broke my heart. I came home and painted this painting, weeping off and on while doing so. it depicts a homeless woman sinking into the earth. She has raised her hands pleading for help. She is sinking. No help is coming!
