I have sold art for many years. I cannot stress enough how important it is for an ARTIST TO SIGN THEIR WORK ON THE FRONT OF THE PAINTING and here is why. Recently I was talking with a lovely young woman who had been hired in a framing shop. She was informing me how I could mount an ORIGINAL PAINTING on a mat board simply by using a PERMANENT GLUE—–the second incident involved a professional framer
placing TRANSFER TAPE OVER THE SIGNATURE OF THE ARTIST, WHO HAS SIGNED HIS PAINTING ON THE BACK. It was a wonderful painting by an artist I am especially fond of. The painting was forever altered (drove me bonkers and I totally lost me cool). In many cases, the signature is as important as the work. —-olRoff
